- As a leading provider of EPCIS-based software solutions, TraceTracker was invited to participate in a recent EPCIS conference organized by SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture in Oslo.
The conference which took place on November 16th brought together solution providers, researchers and non-profits as well as government organizations from 8 countries to discuss the application of EPCIS in food supply chain management.
EPCIS, or Electronic Product Code Information Services, is an international data sharing standard from GS1 that streamlines product traceability and asset tracking by providing a way for disparate applications to use EPC data. EPCIS provides important new capabilities to improve efficiency, security, and visibility in global supply chains,
and complements lower level EPCglobal tag, reader, and middleware standards.
At the conference TraceTracker presented about the successful eTrace project and new EPCIS-based solutions. eTrace was a Nordic project to develop and test EPCIS traceability systems for food supply chains. TraceTracker provided an EPCIS infrastructure and platform that enabled electronic traceability of seafood products in two pilot programs in Sweden and Iceland. Among other things, the project showed the benefits of EPCIS and demonstrated that traceability systems can increase seafood sales.
TraceTracker also presented on an asset tracking solution called TraceTracker Asset that uses EPCIS as a main data repository along with an EPCIS master data server. Other conference presentations included an overview of the EPCIS standard by GS1, Norwegian traceability projects such as eSporing as well as international EPCIS-based activities, interoperability studies and mobile applications for traceability.
In addition to SINTEF, the conference was organized in collaboration with the Norwegian eSporing project and with financial support from the Norwegian Research Council.
