Telenor Objects awards prize to TraceTracker

  • The Internet of Things - or how to save money by knowing where your things are
  • Telenor Objects, a new business unit within Telenor Group, has choosen TraceTracker as the winner of a software competition. Telenor Objects invited IT companies to propose solutions that could help users find and track things- everything from equipment and possessions to other objects and assets. The winner was given 100 000 and the rights to the new product, with the commitment that they would develop the solution and then launch it together with Telenor Objects.

The prize was given out during a partner conference for the Shepherd Partner Network, which is led by Telenor Objects. The focus of the network is “the next generation of the Internet” or the “Internet of Things” which directly relates to asset tracking. The problem with current tracking and tracing systems is that they are often proprietary. In other words, they exist in their own little world, owned and operated by each individual actor. Therefore, it can be difficult to share information or use data capture devices from third party suppliers. With the Telenor Objects Shepherd Platform, any supported device can be monitored and controlled by any supported application. In other words, companies can use different systems and technical solutions, but collect information at one location without problems.

“TraceTracker will play a key role bringing new applications to market”, said Thor Steffensen, Vice President Sales and Marketing in Telenor Objects.

"It is an honor to work with Telenor Objects to make the "Internet of Things" a reality," said Geir Myrold, head of Nordic region at TraceTracker. "As a leading provider of product traceability solutions, TraceTracker will be developing a unique solution on top of the Telenor Objects Shepherd platform that enables customers to monitor their own and third party assets in real-time and analyze where they have been."

The new solution from TraceTracker will focus on tracking machines and other equipment used in construction projects. The construction industry has a significant potential for cost savings associated with increased utilization of equipment together with decreased slack time during large projects. Having “the right equipment at the right place at the right time” is a large challenge for the sector. Grunnarbeid, a construction company based in Trondheim, is enthusiastically taking part in the software development process and will be the first user of the system.

TraceTracker already holds a leading position as a provider of traceability solutions for the food industry. The company has ten years of experience tracking everything from processed food to fish. For example, a recent project in Sweden showed how traceability can be used to stimulate sales.  Shipments of cod were traced all the way from fishing vessels in the Baltic Sea to retailers in Gothenburg where the history of the fish was shared with customers. The traceable fish prompted interest from shoppers, dramatically increasing sales. With the new project together with Telenor Objects, TraceTracker’s solutions will be applied to an even broader spectrum of goods and objects.
