TraceTracker contributes to national traceability with ErgoGroup
TraceTracker has been chosen as a subcontractor of ErgoGroup to help develop a national, electronic food traceability system for the Norwegian food industry.
Oslo, 23. November 2009– The Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food has recently entered into a contract with ErgoGroup to develop a national, electronic traceability solution for the food industry, called eSporing. As a subcontractor on the project, TraceTracker has been chosen to contribute traceability software and expertise.
TraceTracker will be assisting with the handling of traceability information and the solution architecture. ErgoGroup’s other subcontractors include Oracle and PC-ware/Novell.
eSporing is a collaboration between Norwegian authorities and food producers to implement an electronic infrastructure for food traceability - from the field, fjord or feed to the table. It encompasses every sector of the food industry including grain, fruit, vegetables, meat and fish.
“Electronic traceability improves the speed and effectiveness of food recalls. Faster, more secure and more controlled product recalls and withdrawals support increased food safety. ErgoGroup and their subcontractors, such as TraceTracker, will be developing a set of shared tools that will also allow for cost savings and improved competitiveness, both nationally and internationally,” said Geir Kuvås, project director for eSporing.
“We have chosen TraceTracker as a subcontractor because of their long experience with innovative product tracking solutions. In particular, they have solved a significant challenge of data integration between various supply chain actors. Individual food companies often have internal IT systems that track product data from incoming deliveries to outgoing goods, but they lack a solution that can exchange, store and provide access to the this information with other trading partners,” said Håvard Larsen, Director of Solutions at Ergo Group.
“With the eSporing Project, Norway is taking a leading role and can set a standard for the way food is traced internationally. We look forward to using our expertise and technology with ErgoGroup in such a comprehensive and groundbreaking effort in our home country,” commented Geir Myrold, Head of the Nordic Region at TraceTracker.
